Where 2.0 Next Week

For those that know me, I love maps. If you have seen my home office you'll see photo's of our home from the air, topographical maps, and satellite images of places in my life. Years ago, Microsoft created TerraServer as a showcase for SQL Server. TerraServer let you view a large part of North America by satellite. I was thrilled. Funny that now its so commonplace that I can view anyplace on the planet as it appears from space by visiting a handful of consumer sites.

Speaking on A TiE Panel

I was thrilled to have been asked to speak at a TiE event last night. Great crowd, thoughtful discussion. The topic was "Broadband 2.0: where are the opportunities for new companies in the Boston area?". As a company that has recently received funding and relocated its head office to the Boston area, I suppose I was a fresh perspective.

Waterloo named top 'intelligent community' in the world

Wow, not to shabby when you consider a large part of our dev team is from the University of Waterloo. I think we have the right people thinking about Enterprise Social Media then.

Comment Moderation? What should we accept?

I'm the first to admit we do not exploit our application enough on the public side of our site. Internally, we do some really good things. In fact its pretty competitive as to what team can use iUpload Customer Conversation System in the most interesting way. We want everyone on staff to understand that enterprise social media is more than just blogs and wiki's. That being said we got a pretty negative comment recently and let it through. My dilemma is this...

Facebook Phenom

I'm not sure what changed.. but Facebook has gone crazy amongst my friends. It seems specific to Microsoft people. Many of you know I was an employee of Microsoft Canada from 1989-2000. Literally in the last 2 weeks Facebook has taken off and I find a request or two to "be friends" everyday.

Mac Advice Anyone?

Im a mac?
EnlargeEnlarge
OK, after an eternity of resisting, I'm getting a Mac. A laptop I suppose, although which one I do not know. This is huge for me. I was at Microsoft for 11 years... lets say it was not an option then since at one point I was a product manager on the Windows 95 team.

Mash-ups versus Widgets

I hear the terms used when talking about web 2.0 and social media, so I thought I'd chime in and share a client example.

Funerals 2.0

Recently my father passed away. As part of the funeral arrangements I scanned in a bunch of photos of my Dad. The funeral home told us if we wanted to bring in a CD or DVD of photos that they had an LCD screen that could play them. Wow, a tech savvy funeral home, pretty cool I thought.
